Goal Setting For Kids
Goal setting for kids must be done carefully
Goal setting for kids is not an exotic concept. It should be followed both in schools and at home because it helps children develop self-esteem. If need be, you should sit down with your children and help them set goals. Tell them that a life without goals is a life without direction; that goals give them the all-important power to find solutions to everyday problems.
The children should be encouraged to set goals in different fields of life. This should include:
- Academic/Career: The children must be encouraged to seek higher grades in studies and participate in all sports. They must be asked to set higher goals in fields where they show potential to excel.
- Personal: They should be explained the importance of character development, personal growth and personal appearance, and advised to adopt the best practices in life.
- Health: They must be taught the value of exercise and balanced diet and encouraged to set goals to improve their fitness levels.
- Community: You should instill a sense of social responsibility in your offspring by encouraging them to take on volunteer work.
- Financial: Setting goals in this field will help your children understand the value of money and the importance of spending it wisely.
- Friends. Your children need to understand the importance of the company that they keep. Help them develop goals so that they choose their friends wisely.
- Household needs: Encouraging your children to participate in the running of the house will make them good householders one day. Goals should be set on managing the daily chores and making positive contributions to household work.
8. Recreation: Finally make sure that your child is not an adult before his time. Goals should cover things like parties, movies and hobbies.
However, you must remember that goals can become counter-productive if they are imposed upon children. They must be weaved into their lives.
