Career Goals
Career goals should be dynamic and open to change
What you choose to be in life depends on several factors. These include, among others, your family background, school and college education, financial resources, opportunities and personal ambitions. Much also depends upon the career goals that you set for yourself.
Your first step should be to familiarize yourself with the various career options available to you. Select the one that interests you most. The next step is to find a course that will take you to your goal, and the preparations you need to make to achieve that goal.
An effective career plan requires both long-term and short-term goals. The short-term goals can be for a week, a month or even a year. They are small steps that lead to your larger goal. Include in the steps, any necessary course work, training and preparation that might be required to achieve your main goal.
It is quite possible that as you grow your goals may change. This is something that you always need to factor in your decision-making process. You must realize that each decision is limited by what you are capable of now or in the future and by your ability to identify alternatives. It is quite possible that you may not be able to get into a medical school despite your best efforts. In such a situation, you need to flexible and open to new ideas.
You need to explore the alternatives available to you, keeping in mind your values, your commitments, your resources, and your constraints. After this take action. Work hard to get what you want and never underestimate what you are capable of achieving. If you fail, review your goals once again. The best part of decision-making process is that it makes you more confident about yourself and what you are doing. You are your own judge and wise choices can invariably lead to handsome rewards.
